Wow, Praggy appears to have his finger firmly on the pulse of things up here. I may have to reward myself with a couple wine coolers during tonight’s Pats/Jets tackle football game.

First, the Boston Globe today has a story detailing the growing fracture in the House over DiMasi’s future.  The Globies claim that John Rogers recent run-in with the State Ethics Commission has all but taken him out of the running to become speaker. But I’m surprised to hear that Bob DeLeo is still considered a front-runner. I thought his friendship with DiMasi would leave him a bit too radioactive, particularly given the current political climate. Instead, I had begun hearing names  like Dan Bosley, John Quinn and Eugene O’Flaherty as possible “compromise” candidates. (Strangely missing was the South Shore’s own Ron Mariano, who at time was considered a VERY strong contender.)

The good news is that this power struggle is going on NOW and not, say, in the middle of trying to figure out how to cut $1.5 billion from the state buget, as they’re likely going to have to do next spring.

Meanwhile, the Boston Herald editorial page searched through its archives and dug up a bunch of good quotes from state Democrats back in 2004 arguing that a vacancy in the US Senate should be filled through a special election, not a gubernatorial appointment.

Kinda like I did.
